Okhrey, West Sikkim – 130 kms from Siliguri(For 2nights 3days or 3nights 4days)
Okhrey is one of the new destinations in Sikkim. on your way to Varsey, one of the most sought – after trekking trails of Sikkim.
At Okhrey, you can stay overnight and start your journey to Hilley
around 10 kms away by car the next morning. You have to park your car at
Hilley and start your 4 km long trek to Varsey from Hilley.
Nearby attractions around Okrey:
There is a beautiful Sai Temple in Daramdin just 28 kms away. Other
nearby attractions of Okrey are the view point Jureli Dara around 18 kms
away, the AndenOlong Monastery (20 kms away), Kitan Falls, Dodak
Helipad, Butterfly Shape Valley and numerous other view points.
How to reach Okhrey:
Okhrey is located at a distance of 130 km. from the New Jalpaiguri
Regular jeep services are available from Jorethang. It takes about an
hour to reach the destination. The route from New Jalpaiguri is Teesta
Bazar – Jorethang – Sombaria – Okhrey. Shared cabs to Okhrey is not
available from NJP. So what you have to do is hire a auto from NJP for
Rs. 40/- and go to Payel Cinema in Siliguri. From near Payel Cinema
you'd get shared cabs to Jorethang. Jorethang is the main gateway of
shared cabs to South and West Sikki. From Jorethang you have to change
again for Okhrey.
Best time to visit Okhrey:
Okhrey can be
visited throughout the year. You can enjoy magnificent views of Mt.
Kanchenjungha in October to January. To see Rhododendrons in full bloom,
you should visit Okhrey from mid of March to mid of April every year.
Birdwatching can be enjoyed throughout the year.
