Gangoni-popularly known as the grand canyon of Bengal is in the Garhbeta village of Midnapore.

If you are coming via train you have to get down Garhbeta and take an auto to reach this place. Gangoni canyon was created naturally due to the soil erosion with the help of a nearby river Silabati. In monsoon reason, the canyons are filled up with the river water, But during winter, you can get down there and explore the small cave looking canyons.
The place is about 4 hrs drive from Kolkata, 1 hr from Bishnupur. Garbetta is the nearest town and the road from there goes off the main road for about 1 km to the canyon lip.
from Kolkata... via. Rupasi Bangla express from Santragachi rly. stn. (6.25am) which reaches Garhbeta (9.20am) from Garhbeta stn. you can hire Auto rickshaw (can accomodate 8 heads max) for 150 or somewhat less... anyways it took 7-8 mins to reach Gangani canyons from garhbeta stn.
spent 3-4 hrs there... sucking the nature's calmness and magical beauty then returned to garhbeta rly.stn. and had our lunch and took the train back to HWH (kolkata) ....
